Book Description:

A New Adult Romance Novel by USA Today Bestselling Author Priscilla West

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy, Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.

Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “The Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

Lorrie knows that Hunter is exactly the type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

My Review

I would describe this book as a cross between Beautiful Disaster and Real. So, if you liked either of those books then this one is definitely up your alley. But.... that ending.... it left me completely and hopelessly WRECKED!!!!! Why, oh, why must it have ended with a cliffhanger??!!??

The story begins introducing us to Lorrie and telling about her tragic story. Trust me, I would never want to have to experience what she just went through and then try to go back to school and begin a semester. You understand why she is so skeptical about everything. I wouldn't want to open up and trust others either... it would be hard enough just living day to day. It shows her strength though because she doesn't let the rumors or fear stop her from trying to accomplish her goal to finish school.

Then enters Hunter! Melt my heart!!! Hunter is a fighter with sexy tattooes! YUMMY! Hunter saves Lorrie one night and finds an instant spark towards her. I don't want to say its an attraction at first because he just knows there is something different about this girl. He can't get through her thick walls that she has put up though. So, they decide to play it safe and become friends and fight whatever attraction they may have for each other. Hunter doesn't know about Lorrie's past and secrets and Lorrie doesn't know about Hunter's so it makes the perfect friendship. They learn to appreciate the present and each other. I found myself guessing through the book about Hunter's past but I was so far from getting it right!!! We would get little hints that things weren't as perfect as they appeared and then towards the end that's when we find the truth.... definitely wasn't what I was expecting.

I love the scenes with the kittens and the time spent 'holed in'. Of course with all friendships that have desire along with it things tend to escalate. Also things will eventually come crashing down. So, where does that leave Lorrie and Hunter???? You will have to read and find out.... but be warned there is a cliffhanger but no worries.... the next part will be out soon!
