Rose of Thorne - Review, Excerpt, Playlist

Blurb:

When a drunk driver tragically orphans Skylar Rose at the age of sixteen, she leaves her dreams behind and takes on the daunting task of helping her elderly grandmother raise her young sister. While other girls her age were living a typical carefree life, she was picking up double shifts at a local cafĂ© and struggling to pay the bills.

Always putting her sister’s needs and school first, Skylar has never had time to date or develop relationships. Now a senior in college, she has her sights set on an amazing internship opportunity. The last thing she needed was for a sexy distraction like Sebastian Thorne to walk into her life.

Sebastian Thorne had been an entitled and reckless nineteen year old when he got behind the wheel of his new sports car that night. When his night of indulgence goes tragically wrong, Sebastian hesitantly turns to the one person, he knows can make everything go away…the one person he hates ..his father.

Now twenty-six, Sebastian is the young enigmatic and powerful CEO of his late father’s design company, Thorne Enterprises. With both millions in the bank and a new woman on his arm almost every night, the world never knew the dark secret he carried inside. Still plagued with nightmares from the night of that horrific accident and having to leave the beautiful girl behind, Sebastian vows to find the one that haunts his dreams. Sometimes the choice of revisiting our past opens the door to a future that we never thought possible.

Haunted by their past, these two want nothing more than to have their life given back to them. But what do you do when the person who gave you back your life, was the very one that took it from you in the first place?

My Review:

Stars: 4

First let me just say…… WOW!

This story definitely ends with a cliffhanger. So, if you are not a big fan of those I would at least wait to see if there is a conclusion in the second book before starting this one.
On her sixteenth birthday, Skylar Rose has her life changed forever. Her parents are killed in a hit and run by a drunk driver. The problem is that isn’t the only trouble that Skylar will have to face in her life.

Funny… the past, the present… even the future… they all three hold nothing but pain for me.”

Skylar is a very independent woman who has raised her little sister since her grandmother passed away. She is not only getting ready to finish up college but has been pulling double shifts in a diner to help support her and her sister. Skylar is also a fighter. You respect her because even though deep down she wants to fall apart with all she has going on she stays strong. She knows she has to and so many times in most of our lives we have felt that way. You are able to relate to her on a deeper level which helps bring her alive in your imagination. I was super excited too because she wasn’t one of those annoying female characters in the books that are always so indecisive. There were a couple of times I wanted to tell her to pull herself together but overall she was a great female lead!
Sebastian Thorne has a dark secret that only his father knows. Now that his father has passed away he is the only living soul who knows and it will remain that way. Sounds like a great plan right??? But, as we all know all good things must come to an end. All hidden secrets will eventually come out. But, can they be forgiven??
I loved Sebastian. His daily struggle with his feelings toward Skylar made him more human.

“Sebastian Thorne is a force to be reckoned with. Yet as I stand here looking at her, I realize I have found my weakness, my kryptonite. Skylar Rose.”

He is this untouchable CEO that has loads of money and has always kept women an arm’s length away. He is very intimidating but when he is with Skylar you see a much softer side to him. He has nightmares regarding his dark secret from the past but when Skylar is with him she offers a peace/comfort that keeps those nightmares away. It gives him hope. He can’t let Skylar find out his secret though because it will destroy her.
Sebastian definitely has my heart. Yes, he made mistakes in the past and throws the cold shoulder from time to time but I just love him! He is constantly trying to do better for Skylar. He wants to make things right for her. There is passion with him that is AMAZING! Definitely a swoon-worthy man!
We also are introduced to Lucas Drake another drop dead gorgeous CEO after Skylar’s heart. I will be honest; there are some worthy qualities to Lucas. I am torn though because I don’t want to like him. I feel that there is only one person who Skylar is meant to be with and for me Lucas is not that person. I struggle with wanting to like Lucas and wanting to hate him and trying to find a flaw in him. His character was hard for me but I am sure he will play a big role in the next book!
There were many swoon worthy men, there were many nasty-not-worth-your-time men. There was passion, desire, heartbreak, love, devotion. I loved how it was told from several different POVs! That was definitely the first time I have read a book with more than two POVs. This book seemed to have it all…. And then it leaves you at the very end wanting more. I can’t wait to see what is in store for us in the next novel!

Excerpt:

I stare as Lucas wraps his hand in hers and leads her on through the restaurant. The waiter sits them in the far back secluded corner of the dining room. From where I am standing at the bar I can see her face clearly. The warm restaurant lights make her glow as she sat smiling from across the table at him. She looks at him shyly as he leans in to whisper something to her. I notice her delicate skin blush and then he takes her hand into his and gently kisses it.

Damn it! She is so damn beautiful!! Get your fucking paws off her, Lucas!

All I want to do is take her into my arms and kiss her senseless. I want to throw her over my shoulder and spend the entire night kissing every delectable perfect inch of her body. Her stunning face brightens as she begins laughing at something he says. The very thought of her being in Lucas’ bed later tonight sets me over the edge and I know I have to get the hell out there. The blonde looks at me confused as I grab my leather jacket so I grab her ass to indicate that I am ready to head back to my place.

Truthfully, I have lost my feel for her, but knowing that I can fuck some of my frustrations out with her has me grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the lounge.

As we make our way to the front door of the restaurant I brave one last glance towards Skylar’s table only to find her beautiful eyes upon mine. Her glance is full of hurt, pain and pure sadness. She quickly blinks and looks down then excuses herself from the table. I find myself wanting to run to her but I don’t. I have to get myself under control and fast.

I am Sebastian Thorne. Ruthless, arrogant Sebastian Thorne, heartless to the core
