BLURB:

Her past is wrought with demons.

His past is full of heartbreak.

Yet he's the one person that can remind her what it means to live.

Abbi Jenkins never thought she would leave the walls of the mental institution that's housed her for the last year. Now she has, but that doesn't mean she's forgotten everything Pearce put her through.

She knows there's only one way to deal with the depression that claws at her mind each day, and ballet becomes more than a hobby, a dream. Ballet - and Julliard - becomes a reason to live. Something to hold on for.

Blake Smith left London for one reason and one reason only. Running from the heartbreak of his past was never something he wanted to do, but with constant reminders everywhere he turned, it became his only option. When he arrives in New York City, he vows he'll keep the promise he made to his sister and get into Juilliard.

But he doesn't expect to be paired with Abbi in class, the girl whose eyes show a world of pain he's seen before. Pain he knows too well. As each hour they spend together pulls them closer, Blake can't fight his need to save her from herself.

Lines blur as their pasts are wrenched into the open, and they have to ask themselves whether they're too broken to ever to be fixed, or if they're the healing the other needs.

My Review:

Depression is a serious topic that many people struggle with daily. Not everyone is able to pull out of that and find something worth living for, find something worth getting out of bed and dressing for. The is the story of finding hope; when you are in one of your darkest places in life and pulling through and finding something worth living for.

My heart broke for Abbi and the demons that she was struggling with. She had to fight her depression on a daily basis, even though some days were worse than others. She hates the scars that are on her body and hides them so no one is able to see them. It only reminds her of the pain that she had to endure in the past. Her outlet from it all though is dance. It gives her a reason to live and a hope for the future. A reason to keep moving on which is what everyone really needs. I loved how she would get so lost in the dance and would forget what was going on around her. It truly would take away all the pain. The comfort that it brought her amazed me! I wish that everyone had that kind of outlet.

Blake has come to America to dance at Julliard. It has been his goal since he was younger. He has a hurtful past too and when he first sees Abbi there is a familiar look in her eyes. When they are paired together for a performance they start to build a relationship and Blake gets a better understanding of why Abbi secludes herself. Abbi fears that is Blake knew the truth about her he would run away but little does she know it might be what brings them closer together.

I loved Blake and Abbi’s humor together! Their little remarks about ‘Bloody Americans’ and ‘Freakin’ British’ bring just the right amount of humor into a deep dark book. I also thought that Emma Hart did an amazing job with her descriptions/phrasings in this book. I felt Abbi’s pain and I also felt Blake’s. It was like I could really sense what each one was struggling with and wanted to comfort those pains for them.

“Sometimes you have to take a risk. Anything you decide is going to go one of two ways; you’ll either get it wrong and move on, or you’ll get it right and live in that moment. Both of those outcomes will change your life. Both of them will alter the way you think, and both of them will affect decisions you make for the rest of your life, but that doesn’t mean they should make your future decisions for you.”
